| Is Crossing Above After [CrossAboveAfter] |
|
Return to Complete List of Functions |
The Is Crossing Above After function indicates when a field crosses above a given threshold after crossing above another threshold within a given period of time.
Parameters ------------------ Data The value to compare. This is typically a field in a data series or a calculated value. Threshold The threshold to compare the data to. This can be a constant, a field, or a calculated value. Previous Threshold The preceeding threshold to compare the data to. Also a constant, field, or calculation. Period The number of bars to look into the past for the previous threshold being crossed. The period does not include the current value. A period of 1 includes the current value and the previous value.
Function Value ------------------------ The function returns +1 only when the field actually crosses above the threshold. Furthermore, it only returns +1 if the second (previous) theshold has been crossed (and remained crossed) within a given period of time. In all other situations, it returns 0.
Note: The value can not have dropped below the second threshold after crossing it.
Usage ----------- The thresholds can be constants or other fields. For example, this function can be used to determine when a field crosses above its moving average after crossing another value.
Crossing functions are typically used in entry/exit systems to generate signals when one value rises above another value. See the sample entry/exit systems for an example of using crossing functions in an entry/exit system.
