TradingSolutions Function Library

  Significant Direction [SigDir]
Return to Complete List of Functions
The Significant Direction function returns the direction of the most recent change larger than a given amount.

Parameters
------------------
Data                        The data to use in the calculation. This is typically a field in a data series or a calculated value.
Minimum Change     The minimum change required in the data to be considered in this calculation.

Function Value
------------------------
If the value has most recently increased by the given amount, it returns +1.
If the value has most recently decreased by the given amount, it returns -1.
If the value has not changed by the given amount in either direction, it returns 0.

Usage
----------
This function is useful for determining the significant direction of change in a field by filtering out smaller changes. It differs from the sign of the current change in that it places a threshold on the amount of the change and it returns the previous value when the threshold has not been reached.
