End-of-day data has long been available for direct import
into TradingSolutions from Prophet. Over time, Prophet has continued to grow
better and better, improving data availability and adding many international
markets.
To access international data in TradingSolutions, simply
enter a country designation before the desired stock symbol (for example,
GB:TCY). For countries with multiple exchanges, such as Canada, an additional
exchange designation may be required as well (for example, CA:T.TD). A complete
list of the international symbols and exchanges available through Prophet is
available from their web site at: http://www.prophetfinance.com/charts/sci.asp
Note that some of the service for international data was
introduced relatively recently, so data for some exchanges only goes back a few
years. However, if you already have historical data for stocks in an
international market, Prophet makes an excellent resource for updating that
data directly in TradingSolutions on a daily basis.
A “real time” streaming intraday version of TradingSolutions
is currently being developed and is expected to be released at the end of this
summer. In addition, many enhancements are being made to the interface and
performance of TradingSolutions that will be made available in a new release of
the end-of-day version of TradingSolutions.
Licensed users of TradingSolutions will be notified later
this summer when a beta version of both releases is available. TradingSolutions
Real Time had previously been anticipated to be ready at an earlier date.
However, our pursuit of a quality interface with improved performance has
encountered the usual array of schedule slippage. Watch for more information in
upcoming newsletters.
The brand new NeuroDimension corporate web site is now
available. Based on the layout of the TradingSolutions web site, this new
design makes it faster and easier to learn about NeuroDimension products,
obtain product support, and order new products. TradingSolutions visitors will
notice changes to many of the common areas including the Licensed User Center.
The focal point of the new design is our innovative product
tours that take you step-by-step through everything you need to know about each
of our products. Or, if you are looking for specific information about a
product, view our helpful FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) or jump to a
specific Tour Topic. You can even learn about more about neural networks by
reading our introductory texts or the first chapter of our interactive book, Neural
and Adaptive Systems: Fundamentals Through Simulations.

The Solution Service is a free service that provides
daily trading signals and commentary for a select group of stocks. These models
can be used directly as part of your trading strategy or used as examples of
how to generate your own winning signals. To access it, simply press the
“Update Solution Service” button in the toolbar of either the evaluation
version or registered version of TradingSolutions v2.0.
The recent market downturn has
produced an interesting time for the Solution Service models. The most recent
month has produced many large price drops in tech stocks. Since these extended
price drops are relatively rare, these new low prices continue to look like
bargains to many of the models, causing them to generate enter long signals
while the prices decrease.
Since the last newsletter in the beginning of May, the
NASDAQ has dropped around 15% and the S&P 500 has fallen around 10%. During
this time, several of the Solution Service models managed to produce profits.
In fact, the Actel model gained over 10%. Although several of the models
posted double-digit losses during this time, the composite loss of the Solution
Service models was around 5%.
Traders may wish to stay out of the losing models until the
market settles down. The simple models used in the Solution Service can produce
large profits during predominantly trading markets. However, strong
broad-market trends like we are in currently can look like one big buying
opportunity. Fortunately, once these stocks return to more cyclic pricing
patterns, the losses generated by one or two poor trades can often be regained
in a fairly brief time.
TradingSolutions users developing their own models are
encouraged to use the Solution Service models as a starting point, one which is
capable of handling the majority of the market conditions. From there,
additional models or processing can be added to better handle less frequent
market conditions like this one. For protection during downturns, users can
also experiment with stops to see how their signals would have performed.

Several users have recently asked, “How do I display the
Primary Signal and Percent Gain fields for stocks in other groups?” These
fields are displayed by default for the Sample Stocks group and similar fields
are displayed for the Solution Service. However, they need to be added manually
for any new groups you may add.
To display the Primary Signal and its analysis, right-click
on the group name in the Portfolio View and select “Modify Display Fields…”
from the context menu. Then, expand the entry for “Primary Signal” under the
“Common Display Fields” entry. You can add the “Current Value of Signal” item
to display the current value of the Primary Signal for each stock.
To add an analysis of the Primary Signal, such as the
percent gain over the last year, select “(Create an analysis of this signal…)”
and press “Add to Display”. This will allow you to create an analysis of the
Primary Signal. For example, to calculate the percent gain over the last year,
use the default settings and add “Percent Gain” as an analysis. Then, press
Finish. This will create an analysis field and add it for all of the stocks
with a Primary Signal in this group and add that analysis as a display field in
your portfolio.
Remember that the Primary Signal is typically set to the
signal you would like to trade for a given stock. The first time you create a
signal for a stock, that signal is automatically set to be the Primary Signal.
You can select any subsequent signals to be the Primary Signal from the dialog
displayed by selecting “Analyze Signals…” from the context menu for data in the
Portfolio View.
More information about display fields is available in the
TradingSolutions help in the chapter called “Managing Data with the Portfolio
View” under the topic “Using Display Fields”. More information about the
Primary Signal and analyzing signals in general is available in the chapter
called “Creating and Analyzing Entry/Exit Signals”.

Many TradingSolutions users read Technical Analysis of
Stocks and Commodities (TASC), the Traders’ Magazine. It’s a great way to
trade smarter with detailed information on trading strategies, charting
patterns, indicators, and computerized trading methods. As a free service to
our users, we arrange for the “Traders’ Tips” section of the magazine to
include tips and techniques for implementing many of the indicators found in
the magazine in TradingSolutions.
Each time a tip is included in the magazine, we also include
the implemented functions in the Solution Library on our web site. These
functions can be imported into either the full version or the evaluation
version of TradingSolutions and are completely free. Visit the Solution Library
