Data Sources
As a service to its users, NeuroDimension (the makers of TradingSolutions), maintains an up-to-date list of financial and economic information resources. All of this data can be used directly in TradingSolutions as part of calculated financial indicators or neural network predictions.
Data that can be used directly in TradingSolutions Yahoo! Finance URL: http://finance.yahoo.com Data: Historical end-of-day data for stocks and major indices. Fee: FREE Description: Yahoo! Finances Internet data service is built into the TradingSolutions software. Yahoo! Finance has in-depth money and investment analysis, including historical data for stocks and major indices. Usage: The Import Data Wizard will include an option to download new data from the Internet, as well as to update your current data.
Interactive Brokers URL: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/ Data: Streaming, real-time stock, mutual, and index data AND historical end-of-day data for stocks, major indices, options, and futures. Fee: FREE with trading account Description: Interactive Brokers Internet data service is built into the TradingSolutions software. Interactive Brokers has in-depth money and investment analysis, including historical data for stocks, major indices, options, and futures. Usage: The Import Data Wizard will include an option to download new data from the Internet, as well as to update your current data.

Data: Streaming, real-time stock, mutual, and index data AND historical end-of-day data for stocks, major indices, options, and futures. Fee: First 7-days FREE, data start at $14.95 per month thereafter Description: Prophet.net's Internet data service is built into the TradingSolutions software. With a Prophet account, users can download stock, index, options, and futures data directly into their TradingSolutions portfolio. Keeping your data up-to-date is as easy as pressing a few buttons. We encourage all TradingSolutions users to try the service free for seven days to determine whether it will be useful for them. Usage: Establish an Prophet account. After establishing your account, the Import Data Wizard will include options to download new data from the internet, as well as to update your current data.

Data: Streaming, real-time stock, futures and options data AND historical end-of-day and intraday stock and futures data from the major North American and Canadian exchanges. Their service comes with a CD-ROM including 10 years of historical data which can be kept up-to-date on a daily basis, directly from within the TradingSolutions software. Usage: Establish an QuotesPlus account. A few days later you will receive a CD-ROM with data and the Quotes Plus software. After installing this software, use the Import Data Wizard in TradingSolutions to download new data from the Internet, as well as to update your current data. Investors FastTrack
URL: http://www.fasttrack.net Data: Historical and end-of-day data for mutual funds, stocks, and indices. Fee: 30 day free trial, data from $28 per month thereafter. (Most pay $336/year) Description: Investors FastTrack provides a daily update and historical closing prices download. FastTrack's databases include 4000+ tradable, equity mutual funds, 7000+ stocks including the components of indices and holdings of mutual funds, 200+ market indices, and a broad sampling of money markets and bond funds. All data is adjusted for dividends and reflects an accurate picture of current market conditions. FastTrack's data is useful in both backtesting investment strategies and developing your own. Usage: Within FastTrack, create a "Family" for the stocks you follow in TradingSolutions. Each day after updating your data in FastTrack, click on the "Export" tab, load the TradingSolutions Family and export it as MetaStock format. Within TradingSolutions, import the MetaStock formatted data that was exported by FastTrack by selecting the import from a file option and choosing the corresponding MetaStock "Master" file. QCollector URL: http://www.mechtrading.com Data: Historical intraday, time and sales, and EOD for any symbols. Fee: One time license fee of $79.95 US. Free trial. Requires subscription to eSignal or QCharts. Description: QCollector is a historical data downloader and real-time file updater for QCharts and eSignal subscribers. Usage: Within QCollector, create a new ASCII or Metastock portfolio by choosing the corresponding option from the "File" menu. Right-click on the folder for the new Portfolio and choose "Add Symbol to Selected Portfolio..." to add the desired symbols to this portfolio. Download the latest data by right-clicking on the Portfolio and choosing "Collect Portfolio". The data will be saved in the location you specified when creating the Portfolio. Import the data into TradingSolutions by selecting the import from a file option and choosing the appropriate ASCII data file(s) or the MetaStock "Master" file. DataBull URL: Click here for more info Data: Historical end-of-day and intraday snapshot quotes for stocks and major indices across over 50 international exchanges. Fee: 99.00 Euro per year (Convert to other currency). Description: DataBull is a comprehensive downloader for historical end-of-day and intraday snapshot quotes. DataBull directly passes the quotes into your TA-software. DataBull allows you to download quotes from over 50 international exchanges. This breadth of financial data was heretofore either unavailable to the individual investor, or required a serious monthly financial commitment to secure. Usage: From the List Management page in DataBull create your list of selected stocks or indices. Next follow the instructions for exporting and downloading your data. After this you can simply import your data into TradingSolutions in either ASCII or MetaStock format. FRED®: Federal Reserve Economic Data URL: http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/ Data: United States Federal Economic Data Fee: None Description: FRED® provides historical U.S. economic and financial data, including daily U.S. interest rates, monetary and business indicators, exchange rates, balance of payments and regional economic data. This data is useful for comparing the performance of financial markets to economic indicators, such as treasury bill rates and price indices. Usage: TradingSolutions can work directly with daily and weekly economic data from FRED. Monthly and quarterly data will require the dates to be converted to include months and days. To obtain all of the daily and weekly economic data from FRED, select the "Daily/Weekly U.S. Financial Data" database category. All of the daily series are available in one compressed file, as are all of the weekly series. Additional daily exchange rate data is available under the "Exchange Rate, Balance of Payments and Trade Data" database category, but this data is for the last thirty days only. After expanding the data, the individual data series can be imported into TradingSolutions. Note: Since the expanded files do not have a file extension, you will need to select "All Files" to see these files from the import dialog. Note: Since each series is in a separate file, they will appear in TradingSolutions as separate data series. Information about the meaning of each data series can be found in the table of contents (TOC) file included in each compressed file. MSN MoneyCentral (Microsoft Investor) URL: http://www.investor.com Data: Historical end-of-day data for stocks and major indices. Fee: None Description: Microsoft MSN has in-depth money and investment analysis, including historical data for stocks, major indices, options, and futures. Usage: Enter a ticker symbol in the "Get Quote" box and press "Go". Then, select "Charts" from the left-hand menu. The first time you visit this site, you will need to request the free upgrade to the deluxe version by clicking on "Upgrade to Deluxe" at the bottom of a chart. After you have upgraded to the deluxe version, select "Export Data" from the "File" menu of a chart. This will display the data in an Excel spreadsheet, where you can "Save" the data to be imported from TradingSolutions. Note: It will be necessary to close the Excel spreadsheet prior to importing the data into TradingSolutions. New York Stock Exchange URL: http://www.nyse.com Data: Daily share volumes and index closings. Fee: None Description: The New York Stock Exchange provides both daily share volume back to the 1888 and daily market indices back to the 1966. Usage: From the entry page, select "Market Information" then "Data Library", followed by "NYSE Statistics Archive". From here, files containing information for "NYSE Daily Share Volume" and "NYSE Daily Index Closes" are available. To use this information in TradingSolutions, right click on the link to the data and indicate to save the target. Note: TradingSolutions will assign each data file a different ticker symbol unless you either rename the files to have the same name or indicate to "Select individual ticker symbols or fields from the files" in the Import Data Wizard and rename the incoming data. Note: These files may contain a secondary column header line that TradingSolutions currently does not support. In order to use this data with the correct field headings, you will need to remove the second header line.
Data that requires adjustment to use in TradingSolutions Price Waterhouse Coopers EdgarScan URL: http://edgarscan.pwcglobal.com Data: SEC EDGAR Filings (Fundamental Data) Fee: None Description: Price Waterhouse Coopers EdgarScan is a convenient interface to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval (SEC EDGAR) Filings. These filings contain all of the quarterly financial information for every publicly traded company in the United States. This information has been extracted into a Excel spreadsheets for easy downloading and manipulation. Usage: From the entry page, select "Ticker Symbol" and enter the ticker symbol for the company you would like information for, then press "Search". On the next page, select "Excel Spreadsheet" from the "Extracted Financial Data" section. This data requires some manipulation to use in TradingSolutions. 1) The data needs to be transposed so that the dates are in the first column, rather than the first row. To do this, select all of the data and select "Copy" from the "Edit" menu. Then, create a new sheet and use "Paste Special..." to "Transpose" the data. 2) The dollar signs and percent signs need to be removed from the data. To do this, select all of the data in the new sheet except the date column and select "Cells..." from the "Format" menu. Then, format the cells as general numbers. 3) Save the converted data as a CSV file. Note: This data should not be imported into the same data series as your daily data. A good way to do this is to save the data as "symbol_EDGAR.txt". Note: TradingSolutions will not be able to import this data until you are no longer viewing the data in the spreadsheet. OANDA Currency Converters URL: http://www.oanda.com Data: Historical Exchange Rate Data Fee: None Description: OANDA provides current and historical exchange rate data between every currency in the world. Usage: From the entry page, select the Currency Converters "Historical Table". Then, select the date range and currencies you would like data for. Indicate to display the information in CSV format and press "Get Table". This will display the table on a web page. To extract this data into a file, select "Save As" from your browser and save the file as a text file. Then, edit the file to remove any information after the table. Alternatively, you can use your mouse to select the file, then select "Copy" from the "File" menu. Then, paste this data into either a text file or an Excel spreadsheet and save it to be imported into TradingSolutions.

FEDSTATS URL: http://www.fedstats.gov Description: This site, maintained by the United States Federal Government, provides a common interface for accessing all of the publicly available government data. It includes links to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve Board, and others.
