Tutorial: Viewing Sample Models

Viewing Sample Models

The Solution Library on the TradingSolutions web site includes several sample models that you can import into your portfolio. These end-of-day and intraday examples are updated periodically to provide you with examples that have been working in today’s market conditions.

The files in the Solution Library include both recent data and complete solutions so you have everything you need to reproduce the results reported on the website. Plus, you can use these samples as a starting point for your own model development, both as examples of informative inputs, and as working solutions that can be applied to any data.

Ä    Note: In addition to the sample models in Solution Library, the free TradingSolutions Solution Service also includes many samples. Licensed users can also take advantage of user forums in the Licensed User Center to share models and insights online.

Obtaining Sample Models from the Solution Library

1.    Visit the TradingSolutions website at http://www.tradingsolutions.com.

2.    Enter the Solution Library by selecting Solution Library from under Downloads in the left-hand menu.

Ä    Note: The TradingSolutions web site is constantly being updated with new information. If you cannot locate the Solution Library in this location, take a moment to look around. If you still cannot find it, please feel free to contact us.

3.    Select from the End-of-Day and Intraday Neural Network Solutions available. Press Download Now for the solution you would like to see.

4.    Instructions will be displayed on your screen for how to download and import the selected solution into TradingSolutions.

Typical Instructions for Recreating Sample Models

Most sample models are available as a zip file containing a trading solution file (*.tss) and one or more raw stock data files (*.txt) used by the model. Instructions for the sample models in the Solution Library may be different between stocks. Here is an overview of the general process displayed on the website.

1.    Click on the provided link to download the zip file to your computer.

2.    Decompress the zip file and place the .tss and .txt files on your computer.

Ä    Note: Windows XP includes the ability to read .zip files directly as “compressed folders”. Previous versions of Windows typically require an additional program, such as WinZip.

3.    Import the trading solution (*.tss) by selecting Import Trading Solution… from the File menu and selecting the .tss file you would like to import.

Ä    Note: Some solutions include data for multiple stocks and indices. To reproduce the results for the sample solutions, you should apply the included trading solution only to the data series the solution is for.

:    Example: If you are recreating a solution for the QQQ which uses data for several stocks in the QQQ, you should apply the solution only the QQQ data series. Any fields associated with the other stocks will be recreated automatically.

Typical Instructions for Analyzing Sample Models

After you import the data and import and apply the trading solution correctly, the sample model should now be available for you to analyze and review. The specifics of how to do these steps are covered in previous tutorials. Here is an overview of some of the tasks you can perform.

·      Analyzing the Sample Model

Right-click on the stock in the Portfolio View and select Analyze Signals… from the context menu. This will display a list of all of the signals currently created for this data series. For a complete analysis of any one of them, select the desired signal and press the Analyze… button.

Ä    Note: The date range for the analysis can be changed by press the Change… button above the list of signals or on the Overview… page for the analysis of a single signal.

Ä    Note: The Primary Signal is typically set to the signal you would like to trade and defaults to the first signal you created. If you would like to change the Primary Signal to a different signal, select the new signal and press Make Primary.

·      Charting the Sample Model

Right-click on the stock in the Portfolio View and select Display in Chart… from the context menu. Press OK to leave the default settings and display the default chart.

Ä    Note: These instructions assume that this is the first signal you have created for this data. If you have created other signals, this will display the Primary Signal, which defaults to the first signal you created for a data series. See the previous bullet for how to change the Primary Signal.

Ä    Note: You can also display a default chart by pressing the Chart button in the Information View when the data is selected in the Portfolio View.
