Tutorial: Working with Multiple Stocks: Compare Multiple Stocks
Compare Multiple Stocks
i Tutorial Task
Compare the percent gain for the last five years in the Portfolio View.
Display fields can be used to display values in the Portfolio View. This is useful for monitoring the current state of the data in your portfolio. Earlier, we learned how to add the Primary Signal and percent gain to the Portfolio View.
These values can also be used to compare the trading potential of multiple data series.
Step-by-step Instructions
1. Select Modify Display Fields… from the context menu for “Tutorial Data” in the Portfolio View. This will display the Modify Group Dialog opened to the Display page.
From the context menu for “Tutorial Data” in the Portfolio View, select Modify Display Fields… to display the Modify Group Dialog opened to the Display page. This page allows you to add, remove, and organize display fields for a group.
2. On the Display page, click on the [+] next to “Primary Signal” to expand the list of selections associated with it.
3. To add the percent gain, select (Create an analysis of this signal…) and press Add to Display. This will display the Create Signal Analysis Fields wizard so we can specify what to analyze.
The left part of the Display page lists all of the fields that are available to be shown as display fields. This includes fields that are defined at the group level and fields that are defined in the individual data series, as well.
4. Review the introduction to the Create Signal Analysis Fields Wizard and press Next.
5. To add the percent gain over the past five years, we will need to change the range of this analysis. Change the Analysis Range setting to “Most recent five years (adjusted)”.
6. Select “Percent Gain” from under Select Analysis Fields to Create and press Add Selection.
7. Press the Finish button. The new percent gain field will be added to the list of fields in the current display.
Now, press the Close button to update the Portfolio View. After a moment, the Portfolio View will display values for the Close field under “Hot Stocks”.
8. Press the Close button. There should now be three columns to the right of the Portfolio View tree. If necessary, drag the right side of the Portfolio View to show the entire view.
The current (most recent) closing price of each stock in “Hot Stocks” should now be displayed.
Ä Note: If you only have one column, you are probably missing the Primary Signal and %Gain display fields that are preloaded in new portfolios. The optional activity will explain how they can be created.
9. Display fields can be sorted. Right-click on any of the display fields and select Sort Values Ascending from the context menu.
10. To return to sorting by name, right-click on the group name and select Sort Data Names.
Congratulations, you have learned the basics of how to work with display fields in the Portfolio View.
